“Walk A Mile IN Her Shoes”
Many members of Port Townsend Rotary, including the Port Townsend High School InterAct
Club supported "Walk a Mile In Her Shoes" put on by Dove House Advocacy services
on April 28. The walk took place during Sexual Assault Awareness Month and about
30 men wore high heels in recognition of the old adage, " You can never know how
one feels until you've walked a mile in their shoes." Dove House staff was especially
proud of the teens who walked in support of ending the huge problem of date rape
and sexual assault among young people. Two of the young men, Izak Neziri and Paul
Krabill, wore their Letterman jackets and carried the banner leading the parade
of over 100 walkers from Rotary Park by the Ferry terminal to the Northwest Maritime
Center. Many of the other walkers carried signs speaking to the need to end sexual
violence. Cheryl Bozarth, outgoing Executive Director of Dove House spoke briefly
to the crowd as did Police Chief and Dove House Board President, Conner Daily. Mayor
Michele Sandoval, Jefferson County Sheriff, Tony Hernandez and Assistant Prosecutor,
Scott Rosekranz. Refreshments were provided by the Port Townsend Lighthouse Lions
Club. In addition to the Lion's Club, other sponsors of the walk were Jefferson Healthcare,
the Food Co-op, and the Northwest Maritime Center.
